CVMomma wrote: I finally made it through all of Simona's 1st three albums. I had actually never heard of any of these songs, so it was hard to choose.

Simona #1: A Cuckoo in the Woods, Allegro, and March #3
Simona #2: Etude, Song, A little Polka, Giocoso, Oh, the Ring is Broken, A Little Waltz, and Away with Melancholy
Simona #3: The Doll's Grief and Village Dance

I would recommend you the Etude and Away with Melancholy from Simona 2 - those pieces are very beautiful and have some new challenging for your technique.
I also would add to the list 'The Doll's Grief'. It is very ‘melody oriented’ piece and we can work on phrasing and character with it.

Finally, I am taking the time to post about our progress. I have tried several times, but somehow the post got lost and I didn't have the time to rewrite it all. I need to figure out a way to save the info on the computer and just copy and paste it instead of keeping a notebook and then transferring all the info onto the computer when I am posting an update.

Segment 5
For warm-up, I would play Hanon, Liebestraum, Farmer In the Dell, White Cat and Black Cat, and Fa to Fa. I tried to sing along with each one; it is hard to sing Hanon and White Cat/Black Cat. By the way, what do you call the black notes, If it is fa-sharp, do you sing it "fa"? and do you sing "Ti" flat, "ti"?

Segment 6 We were gone from home for a while so this segment is a little shorter.

For warm-ups this time I played Turkish March, So to So, Triads, and all of Nursery Primer on P4. I sang along, except I don't know how to sing the Triads. I really enjoyed playing on P4, and I also tried my recital songs on P4 too.

Bass Staff Puzzle: This seemed to help me the most on learning the placement of notes in the base part. I always struggled with this, so I am grateful for this game!!! 348-3:04, 348-3:09, 348-3:04, 403-3:30, 408-3:27, 348-3:02, 408-3:31, 348-2:59, 408-3:27, 403- 3:31

Segment 7

For warm-ups I played and song Hanon, Spring Time Song, La to La, Nursery Primer in P5, and Do major. I noticed that I can play the nursery songs for the best time, if I know the words and can sing the words instead of the notes.

Is there a video of someone playing Do major so I know that I am doing it right?

Maria quizzed me on my flashcards for this session. That was a lot of fun for both of us. :P

I played my songs in H mode, or I should say that I tried to play my songs in H mode. Wow! It was horrible!!! :( So I spent most of this month playing just little sections at a time, trying to get them memorized. I am still not too impressed with my memorization skills, and it seems like my ability to play the whole song got worse as I kept practicing.  Well, here are some of my scores on H mode.

Etude: 136/169-118, 156/169-65, 151/169-77
Away With Melancholy: 91/108-54, 87/108-62, 87/108-64, 80/108-70, 98/108-35
The Doll's Grief: 93/131-118, 115/131-46, 111/131-66, 115/131-37

I want to try to play my recital songs with the teaching videos, but I can not play quickly enough to keep up. I will keep working on small sections at a time. I must say, though that I still enjoy my practicing very much. I am enjoying the challenge, and even though it is discouraging to see my scores not improve, I think my ability over all is getting better!

Sherry, this is excellent idea! Such activity is blessing for both of you for all the different reasons. First, you tune to each other, Maria is learning to listen to you and you are listening to her. I have to start working on adding duets into the program. Second, she is following your lead in developing correct fingering and posture. I liked Maria's Chromatic scale the best, because she keeps her wrist upper and getting closer to the correct hand position. It will come with more practice and little 'music money' payments here and there ;)
