Here is Rye playing Musette in third presentation. I had switch to the horizontal grand staff b/c I want him to get used to seeing the notes in the typical positions. If he complained I would have had him switch back but he made the transition with no problems.
In the past couple months he has started showing more interest in learning to play and has little complaint about practicing. I have found a way to record his progress to he can easily see his improvement.
In the past he has had difficulty seeing the need for the "games" and I've created a new record book that will hopefully help show him that they DO actually matter and will help with the other aspects of playing. So we've just started working that into his daily playing again.
Below is his Musette scores:
1-07 Left hand 32/33 T12
Right hand 35/37 T33
Both 57/74 T57
1-08 Both 65/70 T20
1-13 Left 32/33 T41
Right 35/37 T13
Both 68/70 T15
1-14 Left 30/33 T8
Right 34/37 T19
Both 67/70 T19
1-16 left 33/33 T6
right 33/37 T19
Both 68/70 T16
1-21 Both 70/70 T20
1/23 70/70 T12

I usually have him do left hand/right hand only twice then both twice. Once he seems to have a good grasp he does only two hands. These are the highest scores for the dates.
He started working on Morning Mood a few days ago.

Yes! There is progress. He has been working on the games more and slowly realizing the benefit to them. So far it's only the "staff" games. Here are his scores after stopping at two minutes.
Treble Staff Puzzle
1/28- 138
1/29- 190
2/6- 196
2/11-196
2/19- 226
2/27- 132
2/28- 163
3/18- 164
Bass Staff Puzzle
1/28- 136
1/29- 78
2/3- 166
2/4- 196
2/5- 166
2/7- 162
2/10- 164
2/12- 196
2/14- 224
3/20- 194
For a long while now Rye has had a hard time understanding the idea of "practice". He just wants to play songs. I started making him do the finger exercises again even though he's not a fan, because as you'll notice in the next post during his song Morning Mood his fingers are not being well utilized. I figured they needed to become more accustomed to different positions and thought we better back track and do some "not-so" fun stuff. Even after a few runs through the finger exercises he has shown improvement and there isn't so much fuss. I'm trying not to push too hard, because I know Rye has a yearning for music. He just tends to be lazy so it is sometimes tricky to walk the line between getting him to learn and not causing rejection. PS- I'll submit the next batch of scores separately. I tried to put all this up the other day and the webpage refreshed for some reason 3/4 of the way through:( It's been hard to find time to get back on.

The latest song Rye has been working on is Morning Mood. I'm not sure it was a good song selection as you'll notice in his video he picks at most of the right hand keys. Again why I thought maybe more finger exercise practice for sure.
Typically he played 2x's with only the right, then 2x's with the left and then 2x's both. In the beginning more just individual hands. I will only post the best scores of the day.
1-24 R53/59 70 L44/46 10

1-26 R59/59 30 L46/46 5 B97/105 72

1-27 R59/59 28 L45/46 8

1-28 R58/59 27 L45/46 6 B99/105 64

1-29 R57/59 27 L46/46 1 B103/105 33

2-4 R59/59 25 L46/46 2 B98/105 36

2-5 R57/59 21 L46/46 2 B102/105 41

2-7 R56/59 28 L46/46 2 B105/105 28

2-10 R56/59 28 L46/46 3 B102/105 29

2-11 R58/59 19 L46/46 1 B102/105 24

2-12 R54/59 13 L45/46 1 B102/105 27

2-14 R53/59 24 L46/46 2 B100/105 27

2-19 R57/59 25 L46/46 2 B102/105 29

*Practiced Angels We Have Heard... and Musette for a couple days.

2-25 B101/105 28

2-26 R59/59 21 L45/46 2 B103/105 26

2-27 R58/59 20 L46/46 1 B104/105 27

So not that I really have any idea what to do exactly, but I thought we should probably head back into easier songs. The last couple weeks he has been doing a lot of finger exercising and has practiced "German Dance" a few times. Latest score for that
R43/45 25 L28/28 7 B69/73 61

I'm certainly up for suggestions from the pro! Thanks!

Hi, Luke!

I agree. After watching the video I suggest you to work on exercises and
ask Rye to 'keep butterflies on the screen'. Sometimes he is doing it! :woohoo:

2-19 R57/59 25 L46/46 2 B102/105 29

I think, he can start hiding the notes and memorizing the piece. RH, LH and PH. After he may practice alone with my playing with metronome and without (TEACHING VIDEOS softmozart.com/forum/55-teaching-videos.html )

I think, his score is excellent (time is low). We need to take care of technique and exercises. Is there any way for me to see him playing Hanon 1 or Chromatic scale?
Also hiding notes and playing with teaching videos will do the improvement.

The last couple weeks he has been doing a lot of finger exercising and has practiced "German Dance" a few times. Latest score for that

He plays staccatto - every note is separate. We need to improve the gravity of his hand and fingers management.

I really wish to see him practicing the Hanon 1 : softmozart.com/forum/55-teaching-videos/13991-exercises.html

He has great eye/hand coordination. Finger awareness and coordination have to be approved. Looking forward for more videos to be more helpful! :)
