FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Hellene Hiner, Houston Musicologist and Inventor of Patented Elementary Grand Staff, in Running to Receive $250K Grant from Chase & Living Social Mission: Small Business

Houston, TX – May 23, 2012

Chase Bank USA has teamed up with Living Social to sponsor the “Mission: Small Business℠” program to promote an awareness of the role that small businesses play in their communities. The process consists of each small business owner submitting an application, which outlines how the business is involved with the local community and the future goals of the business, as well as how potential challenges will be overcome.

Houston Musicologist Hellene Hiner, who invented and patented Elementary and Interactive Grand Staff, has been accepted as a candidate to receive the $250,000 grant to expand her business and create a subscription-based gaming website.

“The grant money will help me accomplish my life-long dream of making music literacy and the ability to play music widely available for every individual,” Hiner says.

Hiner started working on her invention in 1976, after graduating from music school in Ukraine. She came to the United States in 1993 with a dream to make a difference in public music education. To accomplish that goal, she created a unique approach in teaching music notation by spelling out the Grand Staff for beginners with pictures, graphics and computer interactivity.
Hiner’s invention, patented in the USA and endorsed by Moscow Conservatory, has already proved its merits by producing several winners of piano competitions in Ukraine and Spain. It also works miracle for children with special needs and elderly people to maintain fine motor skills necessary for mental health.

Considering the popularity of the video game Guitar Hero, Hiner has no doubt that people have a desire to play a musical instrument; however, learning to actually play an instrument remains extremely difficult for the average person. Traditional methods of learning require time, discipline and significant financial resources.

But Hiner’s invention offers a fun, low-cost, interactive way to learn piano and read music. “Soft Way to Mozart” ® quickly builds strong hand-eye coordination and makes reading the Grand Staff possible for every individual. This popular program currently helps individuals and schools, students and teachers, from 48 countries successfully learn and teach music literacy through playing the piano.

“With the grant money, the company will convert its current Soft Mozart Program from a CD-ROM delivery platform to an online subscription-based gaming application. Each individual subscriber or school will be able to convert any MIDI file into the ‘Soft Way to Mozart’ ® user-friendly interface. The converted musical score will be immediately available to anyone with access to the internet and an electronic piano keyboard,” Hiner states.

Thereafter, Do Re Mi Fa Soft (soon to be called Music Vision International LLC, or MVI) will charge a monthly subscription fee for more advanced levels of curriculum. In five full years, this appealing, simple approach will be used globally in nearly every modernized school and/or household. The subscription option will give consumers access to the materials for a smaller investment of $10-$25 per month versus the current $699 for the full program on CD-ROM.

In order to continue to as a candidate for the grant, each small business must obtain 250 votes through the “Mission: Small Business℠” website at www.missionsmallbusiness.com . This can be done by clicking on the “Support” button, logging in through a Facebook account and then proceeding to choose a business to vote for. To help Hiner and her company stay under consideration, cast a vote for the business name Do Re Mi Fa Soft – Houston, TX.
