Hello from Singapore!

Hello from Singapore! was created by nancylls
Hi! I am Nancy from Singapore, mother of 3 children ~ 2 sons ( 5 & 3 yr old) and 1 daughter (1 year old).
I chanced upon SM coz although I am a part-time piano teacher, I found teaching very young children very challenging. My oldest son wanted to start piano when he was about 3 coz he saw me teaching his older cousins. Yet I am quite clueless how to teach him at such a young age.
Indeed SM has changed the way I perceived learning piano in young children. My son was able to play HCB with two hands within a month and from there went on to do the whole album on Introductory Songs.
I know that SM has a lot in it. And I felt that I did not understand it enough to teach it effectively. I was so happy subsequently this year to know that Hellene could train me on Skype how to teach piano with SM.
It has been really thought-provoking in this journey thus far learning how to teach music in a manner I've never been taught before. I am really inspired by Hellene's vision of making every child musically literate and how SM makes this possible.
I just finished a small music camp for my younger students, putting into practice Hellene's training on Solfeggio. I was so happy to discover how it helped me to start my students on music dictation in a fun manner.
I am still in training now ... will hope to share more.
But this period is a busy one as I am also getting the students ready for the annual recital. My son, at 5 yrs old, is going to be playing Harry Potter Hedwig's theme 2 ... He is still at the memory stage now. My 2nd son at 3 yr just started on SM on the introductory songs, now picking up Jingle bells.
Will keep everyone updated!
If you are a Singaporean, I hope to befriend you ...
we can share our experiences in SM!

Welcome, Nancy!
So great to have you here! Your children are so lucky to have such a dedicated mother! I can imagine how busy you are teaching all 3 of the kids piano! Karma to you! But then you'll get triple reward!
Please share with us tips using SM teaching piano to the younger kids!
