I am originally from Ukraine and moved to America when I was very young. I am working through the teacher training with Galina Vasilyevna. I am very familiar with Soft Mozart and found them many years ago when my son was 1 years old from the BrillKids Forum. Since then, Titus has progressed steadily and we have added more family members. I have 5 girls in addition to Titus ( and one on the way). This year, all 5 girls and Titus will participate in the program. I homeschool my children and teach a wide array of subjects. I am passionate about Soft Mozart as I have seen how incredibly well it can teach, as a teacher without formal musical training.
When I was young, my grandpa used to take me to classical music concerts and from that, I developed a love and appreciation of music. I took piano lessons in Ukraine, but not much once we moved to the states (I was 7). Since then, my training has been informal and I have learned much right along with my kids through our 13 years with the Soft Mozart program. Because I teach my kids a Classical Education curriculum, we have listened to and appreciate different composers, and Soft Mozart has been a part of their lives since all of them were very little, so they are starting with a much more robust start!
I hold a Bachelor of Science degree in Neuroscience, with a focus on children's cognition, a Bachelor of Arts in American Sign Language, and a Master's in Counseling. This blend of disciplines has deepened my appreciation for both the science and art behind Soft Mozart. From a neurological perspective, the program is remarkably effective at distilling the complex art of music into concrete, accessible, and incremental steps that my children truly enjoy and anticipate. From a language-learning perspective—including my experience with both spoken and visual languages like ASL—Soft Mozart’s structure leverages the very ways our brains process and code language. The comparison to learning the alphabet and learning to read is both apt and insightful, as the program breaks down music in a similarly systematic and engaging way.
My goal in the teacher training is to be able to continue training my own children and hopefully bring others along on the journey, as well as deepening my own appreciate for the science behind the remarkable results I have seen with my own children and the comparison to traditional musical education.
